Twin Telepathy Shines in Rebellion 6-5 Loss
July 13, 2014 - Frontier League (FL)
Washington Wild Things News Release
Rosemont, IL-An unusual scenario resulted in the Chicago Bandits 6-5 tenth inning walk-off win over the Pennsylvania Rebellion, presented by The Coury Financial Group, Sunday at Rosemont Stadium.
Per international tiebreaker rule and starting in the top of the tenth each team is able to place a runner on second base with no outs to begin the inning. The previous rule followed by a sacrifice bunt by Chicago's Emily Allard and a defensive miscue secured the Bandits fourth straight victory over the Rebellion.
While the Rebellion fell to the Bandits, the twin telepathy of Pennsylvania pitcher Tatum Edwards and her sister Taylor, who was recently awarded the NFCA Division I Catcher of the Year, shined on the diamond for the visitors. After a scoreless affair through five innings, Edwards blasted her first professional grand slam for a 4-0 lead.
In the circle, twin sister Tatum earned the starting nod for the Rebellion and tossed five shutout innings before allowing three runs in the bottom of the six to lessen the Pennsylvania lead to one.
Down to their last two batters of the contest in the bottom of the seventh, Bandits Brittany Cervantes sent a game-tying homer to left to even the score at four and send the game into extra innings.
A leadoff double by Bianca Mejia and a RBI single by Jenn Salling to score pinch runner Ashley Carter gave the Rebellion a 5-4 advantage; however, Chicago's Kristen Butler knocked an RBI single of her own in the bottom half of the frame to tie the game at five.
Bandits Amber Patton scored the game-winning run on a miscue by Briana Hamilton in the bottom of the tenth and the home team went on to secure their 17th win on the season.
The Rebellion returns to CONSOL Energy Park Wednesday, July 16 at 7:05 p.m. For tickets and/or group packages, contact the CONSOL Energy Park Box Office at 724.250.7412 and all of the action can be found online at www.msasports.net/broadcasts.
