First Place Sound Tigers Finish Busy Two Week Stretch

The Sound Tigers completed a stretch in which they played eight games in 12 days, including back-to-back, four-game-in-five-night weeks, with a pair of 2-2 ties at home. After shutting out the Springfield Falcons 3-0 at home Wednesday and losing 4-1 on the road to the Philadelphia Phantoms Friday, the Sound Tigers tied the Providence Bruins and Syracuse Crunch 2-2 at the Arena at Harbor Yard Saturday and Sunday. The Sound Tigers finished the week in first place in the East Division with 21 points and an 8-5-4-1 record including 5-2-2-0 at home and 3-3-2-1 on the road.

WED NOV 13th vs. SPR, 3-0 W: ERIC GODARD, KONSTANTIN KALMIKOV and MATTIAS WEINHANDL scored, and RICK DiPIETRO made 29 saves for his second shutout of the season. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 8 on the power play, 7 for 7 on the penalty kill and outshot Springfield 30-29.

FRI NOV 15th at PHI, 4-1 L: IAN MacNEIL, one goal and one assist, and BRAD TILEY, two assists, led Philadelphia while MATT HIGGINS scored the lone goal for the Sound Tigers who were 0 3 on the power play and 5 for 6 on the penalty kill. The Phantoms never trailed in the game posting a 32-18 shots on goal advantage.

SAT NOV 16th vs. PRO, 2-2 T: MATTIAS WEINHANDL scored his second unassisted goal of the week, and ERIC GODARD added his second power-play tally of the week, but the Sound Tigers remained winless, 0-3-2, all-time versus Providence. RICK DiPIETRO made 22 saves. The Sound Tigers were 1 for 7 on the power play, 9 for 9 on the penalty kill and outshot the P-Bruins 37-24.

SUN NOV 17th vs. SYR, 2-2 T: JUSTIN MAPLETOFT and TRENT HUNTER had a goal and an assist apiece, and RICK DiPIETRO made 19 saves. The Sound Tigers were 0 for 5 on the power play, 4 for 4 on the penalty kill and had a 37-21 shots on goal advantage falling two shots shy of their season high for most in a game for the second night in a row.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK – RW ERIC GODARD

Godard scored a pair of power-play goals, the eventual game winner Wednesday and the tying goal Saturday, in four games last week. The Vernon, British Columbia native has two goals and a team-leading 58 penalty minutes in 16 games with the Sound Tigers and has also appeared in one NHL game with the New York Islanders this season.

THIS WEEK – Sound Tigers To Visit Syracuse, Host Philadelphia

The Sound Tigers will visit Syracuse this Friday at 7:30 p.m. and will host Philadelphia this Saturday at 7:05 p.m.

FRI NOV 22nd at SYR, 7:30 p.m.: This will be the second meeting in a row with Syracuse, as well as the final this regular season. The Sound Tigers are 1-0-2 all-time versus the Crunch who enter this week in fourth place in the Central Division with 13 points and a 6-6-1-0 record including 3-4-0-0 at home. G KARL GOEHRING enters this week ranked first in the AHL with a 1.14 goals against average. The two straight meetings with Syracuse will also be the only games against a Central Division opponent for the Sound Tigers this regular season.

SAT NOV 23rd vs. PHI, 7:05 p.m.: This will be the second of four meetings, the first at the Arena at Harbor Yard in Bridgeport, with Philadelphia this regular season. The Sound Tigers are 2-3-0 all-time versus the Phantoms who enter this week in third place in the South Division with 14 points and a 6-7-1-1 record including 1-3-1-1 on the road. They will visit the Utah Grizzlies Monday and Wednesday and host the Milwaukee Admirals Friday. C PETER WHITE, Philadelphia's all-time leading scorer and a three-time AHL scoring champion, has one assist in two games since being reassigned to the team from the Norfolk Admirals last week.

WSTC/WNLK 1400/1350 also broadcasts road games, and "The Sound Tigers Report" airs Tuesdays from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m. on "The ZONE". KONSTANTIN KALMIKOV will be the special guest as this Tuesday's edition of "The Sound Tigers Report" will be broadcast live from Roberto's on Main Street in downtown Bridgeport.

The Sound Tigers are unbeaten, 5-0-2, in their last seven home games. They have also skated to a 2-2 tie in their last two games, both at home. G RICK DiPIETRO is unbeaten, 6-0-4, in his last ten appearances and has posted 2-2 ties in his last two games. RW MATTIAS WEINHANDL (1g,1a) is on a two-game scoring streak.

CLAW MARKS

The Sound Tigers have allowed just four power-play goals against in the last 15 games going 80 for 84, 95.2%, on the penalty kill in that time. G RICK DiPIETRO leads the AHL with 858:07 played and is tied for the League lead with seven wins and two shutouts. DiPietro is also third with 344 saves. RW ERIC GODARD is tied for second in the AHL with eight major penalties. The Sound Tigers are 8-1-2-1 when they score first including 5-0-1-0 at home. They are 4-0-1-0 at home when leading after the first period and 5-0-1-0 at home when leading after the second. Friday's game at Syracuse will be the last on the road until Saturday, November 30th against the Lowell Lock Monsters. Saturday's home game versus Philadelphia will be the first of three in a row and a stretch of six out of eight games at the Arena at Harbor Yard. The Sound Tigers do not play another East Division team until they host the Springfield Falcons next Friday, November 29th. November is their busiest month of the 2002-03 regular season with 15 games on the schedule.

C ERIC MANLOW and D SVEN BUTENSCHON are on recall to the New York Islanders. D RAY SCHULTZ has also been recalled by the Islanders. RW MATTIAS WEINHANDL was reassigned by the Islanders Wednesday. RW MARCO CHARPENTIER and LW GRAHAM BELAK have been assigned to the East Coast Hockey League's Trenton Titans.

Police officers and firefighters and their families can pick up vouchers for a discounted ticket price of $12.50 by showing proper identification at the Sound Tigers' office during the week or at a designated table outside the arena on game night...The Sound Tigers will take part in the March of Dimes "Bowling For Babies" at the Nutmeg Bowl in Fairfield this Sunday, November 24th from 11:45 a.m. until 4 p.m. An entry fee is required and covers two games of bowling and shoe rental.
