Lamothe Named Player of the Week
November 18, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL) News Release
SPRINGFIELD, MA ... The American Hockey League announced today that Grand Rapids Griffins goaltender Marc Lamothe has been named the Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Sunday, November 17, 2002. Last week, Lamothe posted three wins, including his first two shutouts of the season, as Grand Rapids extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games.
Lamothe began his week with a 15-save effort in a 4-0 victory over Manitoba on Tuesday afternoon, then made it back-to-back blankings with 34 saves in Friday's 3-0 win against West Division-leading Houston. His shutout streak was stopped on Saturday night at 153 minutes and 58 seconds, but his 25 saves were enough to earn a 3-2 win over Milwaukee.
In recognition of his achievement, Lamothe will receive a Sher-Wood leather jacket, presented to him during an on-ice ceremony prior to an upcoming game. In addition, Sher-Wood will donate five travel bags to the Grand Rapids Griffins Youth Foundation Home Ice Program in Lamothe's name.
A native of New Liskeard, Ont., Lamothe is unbeaten in his last nine decisions and has posted a record of 6-1-3 in 10 appearances overall this season. His 2.14 goals against average is third-lowest in the AHL, and his two shutouts on the year are tied for the league lead. Lamothe is a veteran of 129 career AHL games, and led Hamilton to within one game of the Calder Cup Finals in 2002.
Other players nominated for Sher-Wood AHL Player of the Week include Bridgeport right wing Eric Godard, Cleveland defenseman Jim Fahey, Hamilton right wing Jason Ward, Hershey goaltender Philippe Sauve, Lowell right wing Jeff Heerema, Manchester defenseman Tomas Zizka, Milwaukee right wing Greg Koehler, Norfolk forward Casey Hankinson, Rochester right wing Norm Milley, Saint John left wing Oleg Saprykin, San Antonio center Serge Payer, Springfield goaltender Zac Bierk, Syracuse goaltender Karl Goehring, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton center Michal Sivek and Worcester center Justin Papineau.
