Avery Recalled by Red Wings

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League on Monday announced that center Sean Avery has been recalled by the Detroit Red Wings. In addition, the Griffins today assigned defenseman Philippe Plante to the Muskegon Fury of the United Hockey League.

During his latest four-game stint with the Griffins, Avery recorded five points (3-2-5) and 23 penalty minutes. He earned first star honors on Saturday versus Milwaukee, scoring the game-winning goal in a 3-2 decision, then notched a goal and added two assists in yesterday's 4-3 overtime win at Cincinnati.

The 22-year-old Avery, who has totaled eight points (4-4-8) and 31 penalty minutes in eight games with Grand Rapids, is scoreless with five penalty minutes in three games with Detroit. He will be available to the Red Wings when they visit Calgary on Tuesday at 9:00 p.m. Plante, who was recalled by the Griffins on Saturday, recorded one assist in the weekend's two games.
