November 18, 2002 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Adirondack Phantoms News Release

The Phantoms went 1-1 over the weekend to remain in third place in the AHL's South Division. On Friday in front of 7,434 fans at the First Union Spectrum, Philadelphia cruised to a 4-1 victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Ian MacNeil recorded a goal and an assist, Brad Tiley contributed two assists and goaltender Antero Niittymaki needed to make just 17 saves in the win. The Phantoms were unable to keep the momentum going on Saturday, however, as they fell 3-1 in Syracuse. Neil Little stopped 20 shots, but let in a trio of Crunch power-play goals. Kirby Law netted the lone goal for Philadelphia.

ALL-TIME GOALS LIST NOW NECK AND NECK

While Peter White was away for two-plus seasons, right wing Mark Greig got within two goals of him for the all-time franchise lead. White tallied 122 in 299 career games with the Phantoms, while Greig has 120 in 288 matches. White and Greig are also first and second, respectively, all-time in power-play goals (44-42), game-winning goals (22-19), games played, assists (240-194) and points (362-314). Greig tops the team in career shots on goal and is tied with Mike Maneluk for first in shorthanded goals.

GREIG REWARDED FOR HOT START

Right wing Mark Greig's hot start did not go un-noticed, as he was recalled by the Flyers last Thursday after star winger Justin Williams went down with a shoulder injury. Greig was working on a five-game goal-scoring streak and seven-game point streak, which vaulted him into the top 10 in the league in points (16), as well as second place in goals (10) and a tie for first in power-play goals (6).

Greig appeared in two Flyers games over the weekend for his first NHL action since the 2000-01 season. He recorded an assist on Nov. 16 vs. Boston for his first NHL point since Feb. 25, 2001, when he had a goal and an assist in a 2-1 Flyers win over the New York Rangers.

On Nov. 15, Peter White played his first game in a Phantoms uniform since March 5, 2000. On that date, White was scoreless, but Neil Little made 26 saves, Todd White recorded a goal and three assists, and Mark Eaton scored 15 seconds into overtime as Philadelphia edged Hershey, 4-3. The Flyers called up Peter White for the remainder of the season two days later and he spent the entire 2000-01 season with the big club.

UPCOMING OPPONENTS

The Phantoms and Utah Grizzlies are meeting for the first time on Monday and Wednesday, as the teams did not play each other last year when Utah made the jump to the AHL after seven seasons in the International Hockey League. The Grizzlies roster, which is coached by Don Hay, features two former Phantoms - goaltender Corey Hirsch and center Jim Montgomery. Utah makes its way to Philadelphia on Wednesday, Jan. 22 and Sunday, Jan. 26.

The Milwaukee Admirals will make their only visit of the season to Philadelphia this Friday. The Phantoms are still looking for their first goal against Milwaukee, having lost 3-0 at home on Feb. 22 and 5-0 on the road on March 15 of last season. Goaltenders Chris Mason and Jan Lasak recorded the respective shutouts for the Admirals. Now in their 26th season, the Admirals were another of the six teams to move over from the IHL in 2001-02. Philadelphia will travel to Milwaukee on March 14.

Philadelphia and Bridgeport will play for the second time in eight days on Saturday. Four different Phantoms scored and Antero Niittymaki needed to make just 17 saves as Philadelphia posted a 4-1 home win over the Sound Tigers on Nov. 15. The Phantoms and Sound Tigers split four match-ups during Bridgeport's inaugural season last year, with each team going 1-1 in its own building. The teams will next meet on Dec. 7 in Bridgeport.

UPCOMING PROMOTIONS

This Friday is Chick-Fil-A Night, featuring the ever-popular Chick-Fil-A Cows on Ice contest during the first intermission. Chick-Fil-A plush cows will be given out to the first 5,000 fans in attendance and check out Chick-Fil-A's two tables on the concourse, complete with games and activities.
