
Checkers Split Two Games Last Week

FRIDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers will meet the Florida Everblades in game number one of a two-game season series. Charlotte plays the return game in Fort Myers, Florida on March 25. The Everblades begin this week on a road trip playing four games in five nights. Florida enters the week with a record of 5-4-5 for 15 points, good for fifth place in the ECHL's Southeast Division. Everblades' goalie Rob Zepp leads the ECHL with a 1.88 GAA, while forward Marty Johnston leads Florida in scoring with two goals and nine assists for 11 points. Lifetime the Checkers are 3-5-2 against Florida. The Everblades are affiliated with the NHL's Carolina Hurricanes.
SATURDAY'S PREVIEW: The Checkers will host a Pee Dee Pride club Saturday night at Cricket Arena that has gotten off to a hot start so far in the young 2002-03 season. Pee Dee starts the week at 9-3-2 for 20 points, just two points off the Southeast Division lead. Pride forward Matt Reid has an eight-game point streak going, with five goals and eight assists for 13 points in that span. Last season the Checkers went 2-3-2 versus the Pride. Lifetime, the Checkers are 21-16-4 versus Pee Dee. The Pride leads the ECHL with the best goals scored per game average at 4.29. Pee Dee is also one of just two teams in the league, along with Lexington, to not allow a shorthanded goal this season
CHECKERS RECENT MOVES AND TRANSACTIONS:
Saturday, November 16 â Defenseman Nick Bilotto activated from the injured reserve list.
Saturday, November 16 â Signed defenseman Wes Jarvis.
SLOW SCHEDULE CONTINUES: The Checkers play a second straight week with only two games on the schedule. Along with Cincinnati, Charlotte has played the fewest number of games in the ECHL to date at 13.
DUSTY'S FAST START CONTINUES: Checkers rookie left wing Dusty Jamieson continued his solid start last week, netting the game-winning goal in Charlotte's 3-2 overtime win Saturday night against Greensboro. Jamieson has five goals and two assists for seven points in ten games, including two game-winning goals.
BILOTTO IS BACK: Defenseman Nick Bilotto came off in the injured list after missing nine games and had a goal and an assist in the Checkers 3-2 OT win over Greensboro on Saturday.
JARVIS RETURNS TO THE QUEEN CITY: The Checkers added defenseman Wes Jarvis to their roster on Saturday. Jarvis split the last two seasons playing in Charlotte and with the Checkers American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack. Jarvis attended the Norfolk Admirals training in September.
