Erie SeaWolves News Release

The first place SeaWolves took down the New Hampshire Fisher Cats on Saturday night by a 5-3 final at UPMC Park. The win, coupled with a Bowie loss, put the Erie lead in the Western Division to two games ahead of the Baysox.

The SeaWolves took the lead in the home half of the second against Fisher Cats starter Thomas Hatch. Cam Gibson led off the frame with a solo home run to right. It was his sixth home run of the season and third in the past seven games. Kody Eaves followed with a base hit. Josh Lester then crushed a ball to the left-field power alley. The ball split the centerfielder Forest Wall and left fielder Brock Lundquist as they collided. Lester would end up with an inside the park home run for a 3-0 advantage. It was his 14th home run of the season. Sergio Alcantara singled up the middle and was doubled home by Chace Numata for a 4-0 lead.

Erie starter Matt Manning faced one over the minimum through four innings and collected six strikeouts. He retired the first two hitters of the fifth before walking Lundquist. Lundquist reached second on a wild pitch and scored on a Christian Williams single to make it 4-1. Alberto Mineo tripled home Williams to cut the Erie lead down to a pair of runs.

The 'Wolves went back up by three runs in the home half of the fifth against reliever Mike Ellenbest. With one out, Isaac Paredes ripped his ninth home run of the season to extend his hitting streak to seven straight games, giving Erie a 5-2 lead. Paredes would later single and has collected seven straight multi-hit games.

New Hampshire added a solo home run from Chad Spanberger in the top of the sixth with two outs for the game's final run.

Manning bounced back from the sixth inning long ball, retiring the side in order in the seventh with a pair of strikeouts.

Erie relievers Nolan Blackwood and Drew Carlton kept the Fisher Cats off the board over the final two innings of the game. Carlton worked a 1-2-3 ninth to earn his 13th save in as many chances.

Manning (9-4) earned his second straight win allowing three runs on four hits with a walk and nine strikeouts in seven innings.

Hatch (0-1) took the loss allowing four runs on six hits in four innings.
