May 27, 2005 - Pacific Coast League (PCL1)
Round Rock Express News Release
(ROUND ROCK, TX) â Iowa Cubs lefthander John Koronka, in two previous starts against Round Rock, had not won a game, and surrendered twelve earned runs on seventeen hits.
That all stopped on Friday night in Round Rock.
Koronka went seven strong innings, giving up only two runs on seven hits, while striking out three and walking one.
The Cubs gave their starter a 2-0 lead in the second inning, scored a solo run in the third inning on an RBI single by Beaumont, Texas native, Micah Hoffpauir, before Round Rock came up with a run on an RBI ground-out by 2B Danny Klassen.
In the fifth inning, the I-Cubs scored again on an RBI sacrifice fly by Hoffpauir, but Round Rock made it a 4-2 Cubs lead in the sixth on back to back, one-out doubles by Klassen and 3B Mike Coolbaugh.
In the seventh inning, Iowa got scratch base hits from the pitcher Koronka and RF Trenidad Hubbard, an RBI on a bases-loaded walk, another on a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single from 3B Scott McLain to take a commanding 7-2 lead.
The Cubs scored a solo run in the ninth for the 8-2 final.
The two teams meet at 7:05 PM on Saturday with right-hander Chris Fussell going against Cubs lefty Raul Valdez.
