Portland Beavers News Release

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Jesse Garcia drove in four runs and came a home run shy of hitting for the cycle, and Chris Oxspring picked up his first win in more than a month as the Portland Beavers opened a 10-game road trip with a 7-1 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Friday night.

Josh Barfield was 4-for-5 with three runs scored and Michel Hernandez tallied two RBIs for the Beavers, who have won six of their last seven.

Oxspring (2-2) limited Colorado Springs (21-24) to a run on five hits in seven innings for his first victory since April 21. Oxspring did not allow a walk and struck out six.

The victory brought Portland (23-23) to .500 for the first time since May 10. The Sky Sox, meanwhile, have lost six in a row.

The Beavers, who had 14 hits on the night, strung together three straight singles to start a two-run rally in the second. Garcia, who was 3-for-4, knocked home Barfield with a base hit to right field and Adam Hyzdu came in to score on Hernandez' RBI groundout.

Garcia's RBI double in the fourth plated Barfield for a 3-0 lead.

The Sky Sox countered an inning later when doubles by Tim Olson and Tomas De La Rosa trimmed the deficit to 3-1.

Garcia tripled home two runs in the eighth before scoring on an RBI single by Hernandez. Jon Knott drove home Ben Johnson with the final run in the ninth.

Mike Esposito (4-3) took the loss, yielding three runs on eight hits over his seven innings.
