Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders out hit the Albuquerque Isotopes 15 to 10 but lost 9-6 Thursday night at Tucson Electric Park. The Sidewinders offense continued to hit as every starter in the lineup, including starting pitcher Mark Freed, had at least one hit. The difference in the game, however, proved to be 12 runners lob on base for the Sidewinders. The teams exchanged runs early with the Isotopes leading 6-5 heading into the 8th. In the top of the frame Albuquerque gave themselves some breathing room as they added three unearned to open up a 9-5 lead. The Sidewinders pulled within 3 with a solo shot to left-center by C Kelly Stinnett, his first of the season, but the Sidewinders ran out of outs for a 9-6 final.

The offense was led by 2B Brian Barden and 1B Conor Jackson. Barden went 3-for-5 with a run, a double and an RBI. Jackson went 2-for-4 with a run, a homerun, an RBI, and a walk. With the two hits Jackson raised his batting average to .399 for the year.

LHP Mark Freed took the loss to fall to 4-2 on the year with a 4.31 ERA. The loss was his first as a starter after giving up 6 runs, 5 earned, on 7 hits, 2 walks and 3 strikeouts over 5 innings.

With the loss the first place Sidewinders are now 26-22 on the season and have split their last six series but remain a game ahead of Sacramento in the division. The Sidewinders start a four game set against Las Vegas tomorrow at Tucson Electric Park with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM. The scheduled starters are LHP Michael Gosling (2-2, 5.88) for the Sidewinders and RHP Harold Eckert ( 2-2, 5.74) for the 51s.
