Parrott named to All-Star staff

Tucson, AZ - Tucson Sidewinders Pitching Coach Mike Parrott has been named to the coaching staff of the 2005 Triple-A All-Star game set to take place at Raley Field in Sacramento on July 13th. Parrott will serve on the Pacific Coast League's staff under Manager Tony DeFrancesco (Sacramento) and beside fellow coach Bobby Jones (Oklahoma).

"I considered it a great honor to have the opportunity to represent the Pacific Coast League at this year's All-Star Game," said Parrott. "Anytime you get ballplayers together of this caliber the fans will certainly be in a for a good show. It will be a fun event but everyone there will be trying to win."

Parrott, 50, is serving in his 4th season as Pitching Coach for the Sidewinders and his 18th season as a minor league instructor. His 2005 staff currently sits atop the Pacific Coast League in wins with 26 and ranks in the league's top 5 in both ERA (4.56) and strikeouts (340). The 2005 season will mark Parrott's 9th year in the Diamondbacks organization.

Parrott played professionally for 14 seasons before beginning his coaching career. "Bird" was a first round pick of the Baltimore Orioles after a stellar prep career at Camarillo (CA) High School. Parrott made his major league debut in 1977 with the Orioles and spent another four years with the Mariners from 1978-81. He compiled a 19-39 record and a 4.87 ERA in 119 career major league games.
