
Tucson drops second game in a row, lose 4-0 to Vegas

Tucson, AZ - The Tucson Sidewinders were shut out for the first time this season Friday night as the Las Vegas 51s won 4-0 at Tucson Electric Park. In a game marred by bad weather the Sidewinders fell victim to great pitching as three different Las Vegas pitchers combined for the shut out. 51s Starting RHP Harold Eckert went 6 innings giving up only 4 hits, 2 walks, with six strikeouts. Las Vegas scored 3 of their 4 runs in the first 3 innings one of which came off a solo shot by CF Jason Repko. The 51s added one more late but let their pitching carrying them to the 4-0 victory.
Although the offense struggled with just 6 total hits, 2B Andy Green turned in another good night at the plate. Green went 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. With the two hits Green raises his batting average to .328 and gives him at least one hit in his last 10 straight games.
After giving up a few early runs Starting LHP Michael Gosling settled down and gave the Sidewinders a solid outing. Gosling went 7 innings giving up 3 runs, 2 of which were earned, on 9 hits, a walk and five strikeouts. With the loss Gosling fell to 2-3 on the year but did lower his ERA from 5.88 to 5.18.
The Sidewinders move into a 3-way tie in the division with Las Vegas and Sacramento with a 26-23 record. The series with Las Vegas continues tomorrow with the first pitch scheduled for 6:30 PM at Tucson Electric Park. The scheduled starting pitchers are LHP Chris Michalak (2-3, 5.29) for the Sidewinders and RHP Ryan Rupe (1-1, 3.78) for the 51s.
