Round Rock Express News Release
(LAS VEGAS, NV) - Looking at Las Vegas right-hander T.J.Nall's statistics, a 0-3 mark and a sky-high 9.82 ERA, it would have been hard to imagine that he would hold the Express line up in check for five innings, but that is what he did.
A two-out single by Round Rock starter Carlos Hernandez and a walk to 2B Chris Burke that led off the fourth were the only base runners allowed on by Nall through five.
In the meantime, Nall's teammates backed up his efforts, scoring a run in the first inning on an RBI double by 1B Norihiro Nakamura. Las Vegas made it a 3-0 ballgame in the second on 2B Nick Theodorou's two-run homer. The 51's got an additional run on four base hits off Hernandez in the fourth inning, with RF Jason Grawbowski driving in Theodorou to make it 4-0 and end the night for Round Rock's starter.
The Express picked up its only run off Nall in the sixth inning, when Chris Burke upped his hitting streak to eight straight, lining a single to left with two outs. Nall overthrew the first baseman on a pick-off attempt, allowing Burke to race to third base. He scored on a ground ball slammed up the middle by LF Luke Scott to narrow the gap to 4-1 Las Vegas.
But the 51s offense went to work again, scoring two off reliever Kevin Hodge in the sixth inning. They got another on CF Jason Repko's homer off reliever Brooks Kieschnick that led off the eighth inning.
Express 3B Mike Coolbaugh launched a 475 foot drive in the top of the ninth inning off reliever Alfredo Gonzalez to make it a final, 7-2, and the score marked the first time the Express have been swept in a series in 2005.
Round Rock returns home for a 7:05 PM start against the Iowa Cubs. Right-hander Taylor Buchholz goes to the hill against Iowa lefty John Koronka on Bud Light Fireworks Friday.
