Explorers Snap Three-Game Losing Streak with 2-1 Win

Kansas City, KS-----The Sioux City Explorers snapped their three-game losing streak here Tuesday with a 2-1 victory over Kansas City that evened the series at one game apiece.

The Explorers scored the winning run in the eighth inning when Eliezer Mesa reached first base on an error by Kansas City second baseman Jiro Perez. That error allowed Alberto Espinosa to score from third base that gave the X's a 2-1 lead.

Espinosa started the two-out rally with a single and went to third on a double by Brian Bistange. Both Espinosa and Bistange had two hits in the contest.

The Explorers had taken a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Wally Backman, Jr. double to left centerfield that scored Yusuke Inoguchi .

Kansas City tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom of the second inning on a lead off home run by Ray Sadler.

The game stayed tied at 1-1 until the Explorers scored the un-earned winning run in the eighth inning. The X's had several opportunities to take the lead earlier in the contest leaving 12 runners stranded.

Cody Satterwhite pitched 2.2 innings in relief for starter Preston Olson to pick up his first win of the year. Chris Bodishbaugh retired the final four batters to record his fifth save of the season.

The third game of the series between the Explorers and Kansas City will be played at 11:05am Wednesday.
