Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks News Release
FARGO, N.D. - Tyler Graham hit a game-winning sacrifice fly in Tuesday's resumed game to give the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks a 5-4 victory, but Moises Melendez pitched five scoreless innings in the second scheduled game Wednesday, to lead the Lincoln Saltdogs to a 2-1 win and a split of Wednesday's American Association matchups at Newman Outdoor Field.
In a game that was played for over an hour Tuesday before being resumed Wednesday, it took extra innings to decide a winner between the RedHawks and Saltdogs in the second of the four-game series.
Tim Alberts lead off the 10th with a single off Saltdogs reliever Travis Parker. Brachold followed with a single and a Ron Bourquin intentional walk loaded the bases. With one out, newly-acquired Tyler Graham drove in Nic Jackson with a fly ball to center field on an 0-2 count to give Fargo-Moorhead their fifth-straight victory.
Jackson went 3-for-4 with 2 RBIs, Bourquin had two hits, and Graham drove in two runners in his RedHawks debut. Nate Kilcrease pitched four innings of relief giving up one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts - while Joe Harris improved his record to 1-2 by pitching a scoreless 10th inning.
Matt Forgatch led Lincoln at the plate going 3-for-5, while Ian Gac hit a two-run home run to account for two Saltdogs runs. Eddie McKiernan and Stayton Thomas combined to pitch six innings of scoreless relief allowing only a hit and striking out four between the two. Parker was credited for his first loss of the season.
In game two of Wednesday's games, a battle between pitchers looked to be in Fargo-Moorhead's favor early in the scheduled seven-inning contest. The RedHawks took an early lead in the first with singles by Zach Penprase and Tyler Graham setting up Nic Jackson who drove in Penprase on third with a sacrifice fly.
The score remained at 1-0 until the fourth. Stephen Douglas reached base on a Dionys Cesar error, then a David Espinosa chopped grounder forced an errant throw by Stanton that scored Douglas. Matt Forgatch eventually drove in the game-winning run with a single up the middle that scored Espinosa.
Lincoln starter Moises Melendez (1-0) earned the win pitching five innings and allowing four hits and one earned run. P.J. Zocchi allowed two runners to reach base in the sixth before a strike out and thrown out base-stealer got the Saltdogs out of the inning. R.J. Rodriguez earned his league-leading eighth save of the season pitching a scoreless seventh.
Stanton dropped to 2-2 despite allowing only two hits and two runs (none earned) with seven strikeouts and no walks in six innings of work. Joe Harris and Tyler Hess combined to pitch the seventh. Tim Alberts was the only RedHawks player with a multi-hit game, while Bourquin extended his consecutive on-base game streak to 19.
The RedHawks have won eight of their last 10 games heading into the conclusion of their four-game series against the Saltdogs on Thursday at 12:30 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field. Tickets are available at fmredhawks.com or by calling (701) 235-6161.
