
Winning streak comes to an end at home

AMARILLO, TX - The Sox' bats are unable to bring the team back as they fall to the Railcats 6-2 in a three-hour game played at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium. The hottest game of the year brought 3,642 fans to see Amarillo split the second game of a three game set with Gary South Shore.
The Sox took a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Jason Martin and Chris Valencia both singled. Two batters later, David Peralta singled in Martin for the score. Amarillo would not score again until the seventh. The top of the second featured just one hit off Sox starter, Jason Mitchell but rendered one run scored by Brian Kolb who had reached after being hit-by-pitch to start the inning. Sox relievers would also walk the leadoff batters of the fourth, sixth and seventh innings.
The score was 1-1 after two innings until the Railcats went ahead and never looked back in the fourth. Ryan Miller singled in the go-ahead run, making it 2-1. In the fifth, Mitchell allowed an additional two runs on three hits, including runs batted in by Steve Liddle and Drew Martinez. Sox reliever, John Holdzkom came in later in the inning to record the last out of the fifth with the bases loaded. But after walking the first two batters of the sixth and giving up a two runs on a double by Christian Guerro, Holdzkom would be replaced by Kristhiam Linares. The score after six was 6-1.
Linares got one out in the seventh when Chris Holguin came in to record a strikeout, flyout, and a walk. Amarillo scored a run in the bottom half of the seventh after Cory Patton's hit-by-pitch led to him scoring on a bases loaded walk issued by Railcats' starter, Ari Ronick. Taylor Sewitt came in to get the last out of the seventh for Gary.
Josh Giles pitched a complete eighth inning with two strikeouts and then the fifth Sox reliever, Erik Draxton pitched a one-two-three ninth, also with two strikeouts. The last two relievers for Gary South Shore were Ian Durham and Clay Zavada who both combined for one hit allowed with one strikeout in their inning of work a piece.
Ari Ronick (W, 3-1) went six and two-thirds for the Railcats, allowing two runs on nine hits with a walk and five strikeouts. Jason Mitchell (L, 0-2) pitched four and two-thirds, giving up four runs on nine hits while walking three and striking out two.
With the loss, the Sox fall to 7-11, while the Railcats improve to 11-7 on the season. Wednesday, the Sox host Gary-South Shore for the series finale. The game is set to begin at 7:05pm with the Aqua One Pre-Game Show at 6:55pm on Ustream via www.amarillosox.com. Game time is tentative and is subject to blackout.
