Explorers drop fifth straight game

Sioux City-----The Explorers dropped their fifth straight game Saturday as El Paso handed Sioux City a 5-3 loss at Lewis and Clark Park. It's the longest losing streak by the X's in the last two years as El Paso won their fifth game in their last six. The Explorers took the lead in the third inning when Peter Barrows doubled home Brandon Newton who started the inning with a single. The Diablos came back and scored two runs in the fourth inning to take a 2-1 lead. The Explorers tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth when Wally Backman, Jr. scored on a wild pitch. Backman had started the inning with a single. El Paso took the lead for good in the fifth inning when Reid Fronk led off the inning with his fourth home run of the year. Later in the inning, Scott Clement connected on a two-run home run and the Diablos led 5-2. The Explorers final run came in the seventh inning when Mike Bisenius doubled to score Peter Barrows who had walked earlier in the inning. Sioux City will travel to salvage the final game of the three-game series Sunday when they face El Paso at 6:05 at Lewis and Clark Park.
