Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. - Jake Taylor hit a go-ahead RBI triple in the seventh inning and came around to score on a throwing error as the Pheasants rallied to beat the RailCats 4-2 on Sunday afternoon. The 'Cats have lost a season-high five straight games and have dropped the first three games of the four-game series with Sioux Falls.
Mike Rohde hit a solo homer to right in the second, his first of the season, to put the RailCats on top 1-0.
RailCats starting pitcher Will Krout, making his third start, was sharp and held the Pheasants scoreless until the sixth. Jonny Kaplan led off that inning with a solo shot to left to tie the game at one. It was the only run Krout allowed in six innings, as he struck out a season-high five in the no-decision.
The 'Cats took the lead back in the seventh inning on a two-out RBI double by Chris Carrara. Carrara has five RBI in the last five games, with four of them coming on two-out hits.
The Pheasants came right back in the bottom of the inning. Former RailCat Cristian Guerrero greeted reliever Marco Gonzalez (1-1) with a towering home run to left on the first pitch of the inning to tie the game at two. Six of Guerrero's 12 home runs this season have come against the RailCats. Trevor Lawhorn hit a two-out double, and Taylor hit a triple to right to give the Pheasants the lead. Center fielder Sean Henry's overthrow allowed Taylor to come around and score the final run of the game.
Jack Van Leur (3-0) took the victory while Cody Evans pitched a perfect ninth to pick up his seventh save.
The series finale will be on Monday night at 7:05. Stephen Hiscock (1-3, 2.49) will start for the RailCats.
