Erie, PA - The Erie SeaWolves (41-69) had gone 120 games without a shutout, but that changed on Tuesday night, shutting out the Portland Sea Dogs (40-70), 3-0 in the series opener at Jerry Uht Park.

Mike McCarthy (6-5) tied a career-high with 7.0 IP, but took the loss for Portland. McCarthy allowed a pair of two-out RBI singles to James Robbins. Erie added the third run in the eighth inning on a sac-fly by Jacoby Jones off Heri Quevedo.

Slade Smith relieved Fulmer in the seventh and worked 1.1 IP to earn his third hold of the season. Matt Crouse pitched the ninth for his first save of the season.

Carlos Asuaje, Henry Ramos, Tim Roberson and Sam Travis each had a hit for Portland, who has lost 14 of 20 to the Western Division.
