Harrisburg Senators News Release

The Harrisburg Senators could not sustain their fast start in a 9-5 loss to the Akron RubberDucks Tuesday in front of a crowd of 5,721 at Metro Bank Park. The Senators (53-57) have dropped three of four to Akron this season.

The Senators took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on RBI hits by Brian Goodwin, Shawn Pleffner and Drew Vettleson. Pedro Severino's sacrifice fly rounded out the scoring in the first. Senators' starter Colin Bates threw two perfect innings to begin Tuesday night, but ran into trouble quickly in the third. Akron scored five runs on six hits before Bates was pulled in favor of Dakota Bacus with one out. Bacus allowed Bates' runner on base to score, making it 6-4, RubberDucks. The Senators responded quickly, though, as Pleffner doubled in Goodwin to make it a one-run game.

However, Akron starter Ryan Merritt was able to settle in and post four consecutive scoreless innings. The game remained 6-5 into the seventh inning, but Akron extended its lead to four with a two-out, two-run single followed by an RBI double off Senators' reliever Paul Demny. None of the three runs were earned to Demny due to two Senators errors in the inning. Nick Lee followed with two scoreless innings to keep the Senators within four.

Wilmer Difo continued his hot hitting with a 4-for-5 night. He now has nine hits in his last two games. Pleffner finished with three hits and two RBI while Derrick Robinson had two hits in four trips.

Game two of three will begin tomorrow night at 7:00 p.m. with Harrisburg sending Austin Voth to the mound. The pregame show will start at 6:45 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am, iHeart Radio, and on Tune In.
