
Curve Drop Series Opener to Rock Cats, 6-1

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. - The Altoona Curve avoided a shutout with a run in the ninth, but fell to the New Britain Rock Cats, 6-1, on Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium.
The Curve (58-52) stranded 14 runners on base, tying a season high, as the Rock Cats (52-56) held Altoona to 3-for-12 with runners in scoring position.
Adam Frazier reached base four times for the Curve, finishing the night 2-for-3 with two walks.
The Rock Cats took the lead with a two-run homer by Will Swanner in the second against Curve starter Zack Dodson (Loss, 5-9). They added another run on a squeeze bunt by Juan Ciriaco later in the inning.
New Britain starter Harrison Musgrave (Win, 1-2) pitched five scoreless innings, allowing just four hits.
The Rock Cats extended the lead to 5-0 with RBI singles by Jon Vasquez and Zack Osborne in the sixth. Relief pitcher Tyler Ybarra added a run-scoring single for his first professional hit in the eighth to put New Britain ahead, 6-0.
Altoona cracked the scoreboard in the ninth with a bases-loaded infield single by Erich Weiss, but Shane Broyles (Save, 2) struck out Jacob Stallings to end the game.
The Curve loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth, but Jose Osuna popped out to second and Barrett Barnes bounced into a double play to end the inning. Altoona left the bases loaded in the third and ninth.
Altoona and New Britain play the second of the three-game set on Wednesday night at New Britain Stadium. Right-hander Jason Creasy (8-5, 4.43) will start for the Curve, with right Shane Carle (11-6, 3.70) pitching for the Rock Cats.
