EOCF and Oil Kings to Make Charitable Contribution During World Junior Championship

Edmonton, AB - The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF), in partnership with the Edmonton Oil Kings, are pleased to announce a charitable initiative that will take place during the 2022 World Junior Championship.

Over the past five years, the EOCF has donated $119,000 to Food Banks Alberta, in addition to more than $600,000 -- plus $100,000 in gifts in kind -- to Edmonton's Food Bank since 2003.

This holiday season, they will be adding to that total with some help from Oil Kings players Jake Neighbours (Team Canada), Dylan Guenther (Team Canada), Sebastian Cossa (Team Canada), Jakub Demek (Team Slovakia) and Kaiden Guhle (Team Canada) as all five represent their respective countries at the upcoming World Junior Championship.

The EOCF will be donating $1000 for every point that Neighbours, Guenther, Demek and Guhle record, along with $100 for every save that Cossa makes during the tournament to Food Banks Alberta.

"The EOCF is thrilled to be supporting Food Banks Alberta with this initiative," says Natalie Minckler, Executive Director of the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation. "We have all heard food banks across Alberta have been experiencing record demand and we hope this financial contribution will help Food Banks Alberta continue to serve the vital role they play in providing food security to individuals and families in our community, throughout the Province".

The Oil Kings are extremely proud to be sending a CHL-most four players to represent our country at this year's World Junior Championship as well as having rookie standout Jakub Demek be given the opportunity to represent his native Slovakia at the tournament.

"The Edmonton Oil Kings are thrilled to work with the EOCF and support their community work," said Oil Kings Director of Business Operations Daniel Troiani. "To have four players representing Canada and one on Slovakia is a distinct honour and shows the growth of our organization.

"Our players have expressed their gratitude to be part of this initiative and look forward to giving back to Edmonton through their play on ice. We cannot wait to watch them perform at Rogers Place in front of the best fans in North America and wish them luck throughout the tournament."

The 2022 World Junior Championship begins on December 26 in Edmonton and Red Deer and concludes with the Gold Medal game on January 5 at Rogers Place.
