Medicine Hat Tigers News Release
VS LETHBRIDGE: This will be the second of eight meetings between these two Central Division rivals. The Hurricanes took the first game of the season series by a 7-3 score in Lethbridge back on November 19th. Lethbridge is currently 8 points up on the Tigers in the Standings and sit 5th in the Central Division and 11th in the Eastern Conference. The Hurricanes are coming off 3-2 overtime loss to the Red Deer Rebels, while the Tigers ended their winless streak last Saturday against those same Rebels.
2021-21 WHL RANKINGS:
Record (5-16-3-1) - Home (3-6-1-0) Away (2-10-2-1)
Central Division - 6th
Eastern Conference - 12th
VS CENTRAL DIVISION: The Tigers have posted a 4-7-1-0 record this season versus Central Division opponents.
VS EAST DIVISION: The Tigers have posted a 1-9-2-1 record this season versus East Division opponents.
LAST GAME: The Tigers were looking to snap their winless streak in Red Deer as they took on the Rebels. The Tigers got some depth scoring as Oren Shtrom had a pair of goals and Ashton Ferster tipped home a Noah Danielson shot with just under 90 ticks left on the clock to send the game to an extra frame. Overtime solved nothing, so it was off to a shootout. Lukas Svejkovsky found the back of the net for the Tabbies in the shootout propelling them to 4-3 win.
MILESTONES: Lukas Svejkovsky recently played his 150th career WHL game. The Pittsburgh Penguins draft pick now has 113 points (50G, 63A) after scoring his 50th career goal. Corson Hopwo is closing in on his 100th career WHL point. The forward from Duncan, BC needs only 6 points to cross that threshold. Tigers Defenceman Dru Krebs played in his 100th career WHL game on Saturday, December 4th vs Brandon.
PLAYER TO WATCH: Tomas Mrsic was selected in the 1st round, 8th overall in the 2021 WHL Prospects Draft by the Medicine Hat Tigers. It will be a quick turn-around for Tomas as he was drafted Thursday, signed by the Tigers on Monday and the 15-year-old from Surrey BC has drawn into the line-up for this weekends matchups against the Hurricanes. Mrsic had a gawdy 58 points (27G, 31A) in only 16 games with the Delta Hockey Academy U17 Prep team of the CSSHL. Mrsic is a dynamic centre with a great shot, high hockey IQ and a very high compete level.
