
Eight Dragons to Play in MWL All-Star Game

Dayton , OH - The Dayton Dragons are one of three Midwest League teams to place eight players on the 2007 Midwest League All-Star Rosters for the game on June 19 th at Elfstrom Stadium, the home of the Kane County Cougars. The Dragons along with Eastern Division foe West Michigan and the Clinton Lumber Kings from the Western Division will comprise 35% of the all-star games 68 roster spots.
The eight players in the 2007 All-Star game are the most the Dragons have sent since the team's inaugural season of 2000 when Dayton sent 10 players to the game, which was also hosted by Kane County. The Dragons have three players in the starting lineup and will make up three fourths of the starting infield. Second baseman Justin Turner, shortstop Chris Valaika and third baseman Juan Francisco will start for the Eastern Division.
Rounding out the Dayton All Star representatives are outfielder Drew Stubbs and pitchers Rafael Gonzalez, Marcos Mateo, Pedro Viola and Sean Watson.
Dayton will make a bid for its second consecutive All-Star Game "Star of Stars" in 2007. In the 2006 Midwest League All-Star Game held at John O'Donnell Stan Davenport, Iowa, outfielder Jay Bruce took home the honors with a 3-for-5 performance which included a two-run home run, a double, a single, three runs scored, and two stolen bases
The rosters for each team were nominated and selected by the field managers of each MWL team. Dragons Manager Donnie Scott, who managed the Eastern Division in the 2001 All-Star Game held at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, is in position to lead the Eastern Division All-Stars again in 2007. The all-star field staffs will be those from the teams with the best winning percentage in each league at the end of the first half.
The 2007 Midwest League All Star Game is being hosted by the Kane County Cougars and will be held at Philip B. Elfstrom Stadium in Geneva, IL on June 19th, with June 20th being used as a rainout date.
