June 5, 2007 - Midwest League (MWL1)
West Michigan Whitecaps News Release
COMSTOCK PARK - The Whitecaps won their fifth game in a row in dominating fashion, 11-2 over Fort Wayne. Both Wizards manager Doug Dascenzo and pitching coach Wally Whitehurst were ejected as the game spiraled out of control and the Whitecaps strolled to their largest margin of victory this season.
Through four innings the game was tightly contested as the Whitecaps scored single runs in the second and third innings. The Wizards cut the lead in half on an RBI single by Mike Epping in the top of the fifth, but West Michigan padded the lead with three in the bottom of the fifth and put the contest away with five in the eighth.
Whitecaps right fielder Brennan Boesch drove in four runs for the fourth time this season. He was 2-for-4 with a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly.
Jonah Nickerson threw 6.2 innings for West Michigan with one run allowed on nine hits to earn the victory.
With the Whitecaps leading 2-0 in the fourth, shortstop Audy Ciriaco turned an unassisted double play by diving to catch a line drive off the bat of Rayner Contreras, then walking to second to tag Cedric Hunter, who was running from first on the play.
Ciriaco drove in a pair of runs and finished 2-for-3 with a double. Scott Sizemore walked three times for the 'Caps and drove in a pair of runs on ground balls.
Fort Wayne has lost 12 of its last 14 games, including a 1-7 mark against the Whitecaps during that stretch. The Wizards are 0-6 at Fifth Third Ballpark this season.
