Greenville Grrrowl News Release

GREENVILLE, SC – The Greenville Grrrowl have announced a new affiliation agreement with the Edmonton Oilers of the National Hockey League for the 2004-05 season. Both the Oilers and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Toronto Roadrunners, will assign contracted players to the Grrrowl.

Grrrowl Head Coach and VP of Hockey Operations John Marks says, "The addition of Edmonton as a partner for next season signals a tremendous commitment by this organization to ensure a return to the successes we have experienced in the past. When a team is able to depend on solid prospects, the level of play changes. We will have the ability to develop players for both Edmonton and Toronto, and improve our team at the same time."

With notable alumni such as Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier and current Oilers General Manager Kevin Lowe, the Oilers have achieved many accomplishments throughout their 25-year history, including five Stanley Cup championships (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990). The Oilers finished the 2003-04 season with a 36-29-12-5 record in the Northwest Division of the Western Conference.

Oilers Assistant General Manager Scott Howson says, "We are extremely pleased with our new partnership and are looking forward to working with Greenville's management and staff next season. We feel our players will have a great opportunity to develop and gain the valuable experience necessary to make it to the next level." On April 27, 2004, Greenville also announced a new affiliation with the Chicago Blackhawks (NHL) and Norfolk Admirals (AHL).

The Grrrowl open the 2004-05 schedule with a home game on Friday, October 22, 2004 against the Charlotte Checkers. Season tickets (starting at $238), mini-plans and flex packs are available now by contacting the Grrrowl office. Please call 467-4777 for additional ticket information.
