Sea Wolves Release Season-Ending Protected List

June 4, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
Mississippi Sea Wolves News Release

BILOXI, Miss. – The Mississippi Sea Wolves announced today their season-ending roster, which is the second phase of the player protection process in the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the ECHL and the Professional Hockey Players Association. Season-ending rosters are not final until verified by the ECHL.

Mississippi's season-ending roster consists of the following ECHL maximum 20 players:

Anthony Battaglia Jim Baxter (veteran player) Nic Bilotto Chris Cava Lucas Drake Louis Dumont (veteran player) Kerry Ellis-Toddington John Evangelista (veteran player) Brent Gauvreau Jeff Hutchins Jason Kean Sergei Kuznetsov Travis Lisabeth Roger Maxwell (veteran player) Austin Miller Steve O'Rourke Andrew Proskurnicki Patrick Rochon (veteran player) Yannick Tremblay Steffon Walby (veteran player)

ECHL teams hold the rights to players on their season-ending rosters until July 1. At that time, eight unsigned players can be extended a qualifying offer. No more than four of the players qualified can be veterans (players who have played in more than 288 professional games).

Players that are extended a qualifying offer will have until August 1 to accept it. Teams are not required to qualify players who have signed a contract prior to July 1. Players who are not signed or qualified by July 1 will become unrestricted free agents.

A non-veteran player that does not accept the qualifying offer will have his rights retained by the extending team for one full playing season. If a player who has received a qualifying offer elects to sign with the team after August 1, the original qualifying offer is null and void and the team may sign the player for any amount they agree upon. If a veteran player turns down a team's qualifying offer and is offered a contract by another ECHL team, the original team will have until August 31 to match the offer. A veteran player who chooses not to accept a qualifying offer and who does sign an offer sheet will become an unrestricted free agent on September 1.

Season-ending rosters do not include players who were under contract to teams in either the National Hockey League or the American Hockey League prior to the opening of the 2003-04 ECHL season.

The Sea Wolves open their ninth ECHL season on October 22 against the Louisiana IceGators at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum.
