Season-Ending Roster Announced

June 4, 2004 - ECHL (ECHL)
San Diego Gulls News Release

SAN DIEGO — San Diego Gulls head coach Martin St. Amour announced Friday the season-ending roster, which includes the same 15 players on the protected list. Season-ending rosters are not final until verified by the ECHL.

Teams will hold the rights to those players on their season-ending rosters until July 1 at which point eight unsigned players can be extended a qualifying offer. No more than four of the players qualified can be veterans (players who have played in more than 288 professional games).

Players that are extended a qualifying offer will have until Aug. 1 to accept the qualifying offer. Teams are not required to qualify players who have signed a contract prior to July 1. Players who are not signed or qualified by July 1 will become unrestricted free agents.

If a player, who has received a qualifying offer, elects to sign with the team after Aug. 1, the original qualifying offer is null and void and the team may sign the player for any amount they agree upon. If a veteran player turns down a team's qualifying offer and if offered a contract by another ECHL team, the original team will have until Aug. 31 to match the offer.

A non-veteran player (players who have played in fewer than 288 professional games) that does not accept the qualifying offer will have his rights retained by the extending team for one full playing season. A veteran player who chooses not to accept a qualifying offer and who does sign an offer sheet will become an unrestricted free agent on Sept. 1.

Teams were allowed to submit up to 20 players on their season-ending rosters. They may not include players who were under contract to teams in either the National Hockey League or American Hockey League prior to the opening of the 2003-04 ECHL season.

The Gulls' season-ending roster contains 15 players. These were the same players filed on the protected list, which was announced on Tuesday:
