Manchester Monarchs News Release
MANCHESTER, NH - Nick Ebert scored the game-winning goal in overtime, sending the Monarchs to a 3-2 victory over Providence on Saturday in front of a sellout crowd at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Trophies Night.
The win was Manchester's (22-6-1-1) fifth straight overall and third victory by way of overtime. It was their ninth consecutive win at home. Manchester is now 3-2-0-0 on the season against Providence (15-13-3-0).
"I just thought it was another gutsy win for us," Head Coach Mike Stothers said. "Providence plays us extremely well and they are always good games. From a fan's standpoint, I don't think you could have asked for anything more."
Rob Flick opened the scoring at 9:52 of the first period with a wrist shot for his fifth goal of the season.
Zach O'Brien tied the game for Manchester at 8:07 of the second period when he redirected a Jordan Weal shot for his seventh goal of the season.
Sean Backman gave the Monarchs a 2-1 lead at 9:05 in the third period when he scored on a wrist shot.
Flick's second goal of the game tied the score at 10:55 of the third period.
Ebert scored the game-winning goal on a slap shot at 2:15 of the overtime period, his third goal of the season.
The Monarchs are back home at the Verizon Wireless Arena tomorrow when they host the Portland Pirates at 3 p.m. in the latest rendition of the VIP Cup Series.
