Bridgeport Islanders News Release

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - David Leggio made 19 saves as the Bridgeport Sound Tigers earned their second straight shutout, blanking the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 5-0 on Saturday night at Mohegan Sun Arena.

Colin McDonald notched three points (2 G, 1 A) and earned first star's honors on the night. Four Sound Tigers, including McDonald, recorded multi-point games.

A back-and-forth start to the game went over eight minutes without a whistle. The whistle finally came after a beautiful passing play by the Sound Tigers ended up in the back of the Penguins net. McDonald hit Sebastian Collberg with a pass, who then found Kael Mouillierat who scored his eighth of the season to make it 1-0 Bridgeport.

The Penguins took a penalty with less than three seconds to go in the first, then took another moments into the second. On the ensuing five-on-three power play, McDonald found a loose puck in front of the net and slammed it home for his 10th goal of the season. The goal came just after the two-man advantage expired, but was a five-on-four goal that gave the Sound Tigers a 2-0 lead.

Bridgeport controlled the pace of play in the second, dominating puck possession in the Penguins zone. It was only a matter of time before the Sound Tigers found the back of the net, and when they did, they struck twice.

First it was Sebastian Collberg firing home his second goal in as many game to make it 3-0 with 4:16 remaining in the second. Just 50 seconds later, Scooter Vaughan slipped a puck along the ice and through Murray to make it 4-0. That was all the insurance the Sound Tigers would need, but there was still more than a period of hockey left to play.

Late in the second, the Penguins tried to shift the tide of the game by using their physical edge. Pierre-Luc Letourneau-Leblond tried to start a scrap without any takers, then Alex Boak dropped the gloves with Johan Sundstrom in the final 17 seconds of the second. Sundstrom earned an extra minor, but the Sound Tigers killed the penalty off, as they went two-for-two on the kill.

Leggio had to make just five saves in the third period, but he also had to make his best of the game. With the Sound Tigers on the power play, Tom Kostopoulos tried to sneak a short-handed bid short side, but Leggio closed the door, earning his first shutout as a Sound Tiger.

The Sound Tigers went 1-for-3 on the power play tonight, while Matt Murray made 27 saves in a losing effort.

Bridgeport continues their road swing with a Tuesday night contest on December 30 at Worcester against the Sharks. Puck drop is set for 7:00 p.m.

Notes: The Sound Tigers current shutout streak is at 128:26, dating back to Dec. 20 against Norfolk...Collberg earned the game's third star with a goal and an assist...The Sound Tigers earned their first win against Wilkes-Barre in seven tries, dating back to 2012.
