Kane County Cougars News Release

APPLETON, Wisc. - The Kane County Cougars fell behind, 6-0, in the second inning Tuesday night against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and never recovered, falling, 9-2, in front of 5,206 fans at Time Warner Cable Field. The Cougars were hoping to win their first four-game series since early July but instead had to settle for the split.

Starter Scott Deal (6-4) suffered the defeat. He allowed all six of the second-inning tallies, though two were unearned and a couple of other plays could have been made to save him. Brent Lysander took over and later allowed three runs -- two earned -- in the fourth for a 9-0 deficit. Larry Cobb's two-run single in the fifth off Edward Paredes (7-10) accounted for a 9-2 score that eventually became the final.

One bright spot for the Cougars was the relief work by Scott Mitchinson, who was activated from the disabled list and struck out five over 2 2/3 innings. He'd had seven quality starts as a member of the rotation before getting hurt in mid-June.

The Cougars (22-28) now return home to Elfstrom Stadium for an eight-game, seven-day home stand that starts Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 CT against the Cedar Rapids Kernels. The clubs will finish a game from July that was suspended by rain and then play a seven-inning contest afterward. Tyson Ross (0-0, 1.80) is expected to be activated from the disabled list to pitch in relief in the suspended game, and Scott Hodsdon (5-8, 3.24) is scheduled to start Game 2.
