
Cedar Rapids Takes Final Game to Split Series

Burlington, IA (Aug 12, 2008) - After taking the first two games of a four-game series with Cedar Rapids, the Bees lost the final two games. Tuesday night at Community Field, the Bees fell 8-5 to the Kernels reducing the Bees lead in the division over Cedar Rapids to two games.
The Bees scored the first run of the ballgame. In the bottom of the second inning, Jason Taylor led off with a single and then stole second. After one out was recorded, Nick Francis hit an RBI single to score Taylor and give the Bees a 1-0 lead.
Cedar Rapids took the lead in the third inning by scoring five runs. The five runs scored thanks to a Jeremy Moore two-run homerun, a Gabe Jacobo two-run double and a Jay Brossman RBI single. The Kernels scored another two runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a 7-1 lead.
The Bees began to come back in the bottom of the fifth inning. With two outs and nobody on base, Johnny Giavotella hit a solo homerun to cut the deficit to five runs. The Bees scored another three runs in the eighth inning. With one out, Clint Robinson singled and then moved to second when Nick Francis walked. Jamar Walton then came to the plate and doubled to score Robinson and move Francis to third. An error then allowed Francis to score and Walton to move to third. Walton then scored on a passed ball to get the Bees within two runs.
Cedar Rapids scored one run in the top of the ninth to take a three-run lead once again. The Bees got two runners on base in the bottom of the ninth to bring the tying run to the plate but could not score anymore runs.
Danny Gutierrez got the start for the Bees and pitched just four innings. He allowed seven runs on six hits with five strikeouts and six walks. Gutierrez took the loss to move to 4-3 on the season. Brandon Sisk pitched 3.2 innings allowing just three hits with six strikeouts and two walks. Paul Raglione pitched 1.1 innings and allowed one run on two hits.
The Bees had 11 hits in the game. Robinson led the way going 3-5 with a run scored. Walton was the only other Bee with multiple hits as he had two.
The first-place Bees now hit the road for an 8-game road trip. The Bees will begin a three game series at Clinton Wednesday night at Clinton. Danny Duffy is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. The Bees will return home Thursday August 21 to begin their final eight-game homestand.
