Beloit Sky Carp News Release

Mike McCardell retired 21 of the last 22 batters he faced Tuesday night, en route to his ninth win of the year and a 7-2 Snapper victory. McCardell went eight innings, allowing just two runs on three hits (all in the first inning) while striking out 10 Chiefs.

Peoria got on the board early with two runs in the top of the first inning. Jovan Rosa delivered the big hit, cracking an RBI-single to left-center field for the first run. Rosa then scored later in the inning on a misplayed run-down attempt by the Snappers' infield. Jovan and the Chiefs took a 2-0 lead after the first half inning.

McCardell took it from there, retiring 21 of the next 22 he faced. The one he didn't retire reached on a wild pitch strikeout from Mike in the top of the second inning. The Snaps tied the game up at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Rene Leveret two-run bomb to dead center field. Leveret's homer plated Ben Revere, who earlier singled, from third base.

Beloit then took control in the bottom of the fifth inning with five more runs off three hits and one Chief error. Rene Leveret again delivered the big hit for the Snaps, smashing a three-run single to right field. Leveret cracked one with the bases loaded with what looked to be just a two-run single, but Peoria right fielder Cliff Andersen made a diving attempt that resulted in the ball scooting away from him. Andersen's misplay allowed all three runners to score, giving the Snaps the 7-2 lead.

McCardell pitched eight innings of two-run baseball and left it up to reliever Mike Allen to close out it out. Allen then retired the Chiefs in order in the top of the ninth to give Beloit the 7-2 win.

Rene Leveret was the offensive hero of the night, going 2-for-4 with five RBIs for the Snaps. With the win Beloit improved to 27-24 in the second half.
