Chris Dickerson Becomes 30th Former Dragon in Major Leagues

Dayton, Ohio-The Cincinnati Reds today called up former Dayton Dragons outfielder Chris Dickerson from Triple-A Louisville. Dickerson becomes the 30th former Dragon to reach the major leagues.

Dickerson, 26, spent most of the 2004 season with the Dragons, batting .303 with four home runs and 34 runs batted in while playing in 84 games.

Dickerson has spent all of 2008 with Louisville, batting .287 with 11 home runs and 53 runs batted in. He has also stolen 26 bases in 97 games.

Other former Dragons who have made their major league debuts this season include Johnny Cueto, Paul Janish, Jay Bruce, Daryl Thompson, and Adam Rosales (all with the Reds), Carlos Guevara (with the Padres), and Randy Ruiz (with the Twins).

The Reds roster also includes three other former Dragons who first reached the major leagues in previous seasons. They are third baseman Edwin Encarnacion, catcher Ryan Hanigan, and first baseman Joey Votto.

In a pair of related moves, two other former Dragons were promoted today within the Reds farm system. Outfielder Drew Stubbs was promoted from Double-A Chattanooga to replace Dickerson in Louisville, while outfielder Chris Heisey was promoted from Sarasota to Chattanooga.

The Dragons play at Lansing tonight at 7:05 p.m. (EDT). They lead Fort Wayne by one game in the Midwest League Eastern Division wildcard race with 20 games to play.
