Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, have announced that pitcher Scott Mitchinson has been activated from the disabled list while another pitcher, Brad Hertzler has been transferred to Short-A Vancouver. The latest transaction keeps the Cougars' roster at 24 players entering play tonight against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in Appleton.
Mitchinson, a 2008 Midwest League All-Star, is cleared for a return to game action after joining the disabled list on July 1 with a right elbow injury. The ailment, which was retroactive to June 24, had sidelined the 2008 Midwest League All-Star for more than six weeks. Mitchinson's last outing was on June 23 against the Quad Cities River Bandits, as the righty was saddled with the loss after pitching just 3.2 innings, his shortest outing of the season.
In 12 starts for the Cougars in â08, Mitchinson is 5-3 with a 1.90 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP - best among all current pitchers on the Cougars' active roster. Opponents have batted just .207 against the Australia native, who was a Rule 5 draft selection last December by the A's.
Hertzler, a 15th round selection by the A's in 2007, makes the move to Vancouver after pitching in 26 games, mainly out of the Cougars' bullpen. Since picking up the win on June 21 against Clinton, the lefty had struggled in his last 11 appearances, yielding 24 runs in 24.2 innings of work. Overall in 2008, Hertzler is 2-5 with a 5.26 ERA.
The Cougars (22-27) conclude a four-game set at Wisconsin this evening with a 7:05 p.m. CDT contest at Time Warner Cable Field. Kane County's Scott Deal (6-3, 4.08) will face Edward Paredes (6-10, 4.71) of the Timber Rattlers.
