
Eagles Power Play Sinks Thunder

LOVELAND, CO- The Wichita Thunder lost 7-5 to the Colorado Eagles at the Budweiser Event Center on Friday night.
Wichita faced three separate deficits of three goals and twice were able to pull within one, but Adam Hogg's empty net goal with 53 seconds left in regulation sealed the game. Down 5-2 heading into the third, Kory Scoran scored on a long line drive shot from the left point that sailed over the left shoulder of Eagles' goaltender Kyle Jones. After Kevin Ulanski scored his third goal of the game at 6:43 in the third, Aaron Davis redirected Steven Kaunisto's shot from the point past Jones at 10:25. Mike Looby completed a two-on-one chance set up by Jesse Bennefield at 15:21 to pull the Thunder within one.
The Eagles powered their way to an early lead, scoring three times in the first period. Ulanski redirected Jason Beatty's shot from the point past the right of Marty Magers at 3:56. During a Colorado power play, Ulanski scored on a second rebound left near the right hash mark at 13:03 to make it 2-0. Hogg scored on an Eagles' two-man advantage at 15:08, tipping in a rebound from Braden Desmit.
The Thunder climbed back into the game in the second, scoring twice within 2:25. A.J. Gale punched in a backdoor pass from Matt Robinson at 7:30 to get Wichita on the board. At 9:55, Robinson beat Eagles' Jones over the left shoulder with a snapshot from the edge of the left circle.
Colorado re-extended its lead after Kory Scoran was charged with a five-minute major for boarding at 13:49. Kyle Peto connected on slapshot from the point at 15:44 while Matt Glasser beat Magers with a wristshot at 17:56 for the Eagles' second goal on the continuous power play. Robin Richards and Ryan Hand each picked up fighting majors at the end of the second period.
Magers was 31 of 37 in the loss. Jones saved 32 of 37 in the win. Wichita was 2 for 6 on the power play while Colorado had five power play goals during five opportunities. Prior to the game, Wichita activated Daniel Tetrault from the 10-Day IR and waived Chris Moran.
