Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - A cowboy in a bull riding contest needs eight seconds to find glory, but it was quite a different approach for the Brahmas as they needed all but 9 seconds in an overtime to defeat the Laredo Bucks 4-3 Friday evening.
Daniel Koger took a hooking call in the first setting up an opportunity for the Texas powerplay and with :42 ticks left, Jason Deitsch followed up a shot from Dan Riedel for his fifth of the night to increase his goal scoring streak to three consecutive games. The Brahmas were back with a man advantage looking for a two goal lead when a breaking Darryl Smith found Joe Scali for a Bucks' shorthanded goal.
It was a second period Kevin Beech and the Brahmas would like to learn from and forget as the first two shots on net in the frame found the back of the net, giving call to netminder Wayne Savage for the remainder of the game. Goals came from Jeff Bes and Koger. A flurry of firepower came from the Texas twigs, peppering Pier-Olivier Pelletier with 12 shots in a short span, but it was a shot from Steven Later on the powerplay that broke through sending the home squad down just 2-3 into the intermission. The goal was Later's second of the season.
Late in the third a cluster of Brahmas jerseys surrounded the Laredo net where eventually Jason Krischuk would find daylight with an unassisted powerplay goal. The game remained tied leading to the overtime, only Texas' third extra period opportunity in the season.
With a couple shots a piece in the overtime, the game looked to be heading to the shootout, but Todd Griffith with just 9.2 seconds remaining took a feed from Krischuk and buried it to the back of the net, lighting the lamp for a Texas 4-3 victory. Wayne Savage stopped all 18 shots faced in net and the Brahmas powerplay went 3 for 6 on the job.
"Military Appreciation Nights" will conclude Saturday with a post game jersey auction, but prior to the 7:30 pm game against the Mudbugs, the Brahmas and City of North Richland Hills will honor former captain Craig Minard with an on-ice presentation.
