Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (November 26, 2010) - John Snowden broke a 3-3 tie at 7:53 of the third period and Brett Holmberg scored twice and picked up one assist as the Bloomington PrairieThunder edged the host Quad City Mallards 4-3 Friday night.
Snowden swept home a rebound for what would prove to be the game winner. The PrairieThunder had entered the third period trailing 3-2 but caught a break when Holmberg tied up the see-saw contest by banking the puck into the net off a Mallard at 4:49 of the third.
It was the Mallards who had come from behind in the second period by breaking loose for three goals in a span of just over five minutes to turn a 2-0 deficit into a 3-2 lead. Tyler Shelast kickstarted the onslaught when he charged into the goalmouth to convert Mike McLean's centering feed at 9:21 of the second. A breakaway goal by Shelast (who would also add an assist) tied the score at two at 14:01. The Mallards took the lead while on the power play just 34 seconds later when Obi Aduba (who assisted on both of Shelast's goals) scored from the doorstep
First period goals by Holmberg and Bill Bagron propelled Bloomington to a 2-0 lead. Holmberg opened the scoring by burying Bagron's centering pass two minutes and five seconds into the game. With just 1:23 left in the first Bagron jammed the puck home in a goalmouth scramble to double the PrairieThunder advantage.
Tomorrow night the Mallards begin a stretch of five straight road games with a visit to Fort Wayne to meet the Komets.
