Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
Cedar Rapids, IA - The Quad Cities River Bandits received a dominant performance on the mound from Shawn Dubin and collected a season-high 13 hits to record a 7-2 win over Cedar Rapids on Monday night at Perfect Game Field. All nine hitters in the Bandits lineup finished with at least one hit.
The River Bandits (7-4) jumped out of the gates quickly, grabbing a 2-0 lead in the first inning. With one out, Jeremy Pena scalded a double into the left field corner to extend his hitting streak to eight games. The next batter, Enmanuel Valdez, launched an opposite field two-run home run to get the scoring started. The long ball was his second of the season.
Valdez was in the middle of the next run scoring effort for Quad Cities in the fifth inning. He reached on an error to open the inning and was joined on base by Scott Schreiber after a walk. Jonathan Lacroix capitalized by ripping a single into right field to stretch the lead to 3-0.
Marty Costes opened the sixth inning by driving a solo home run over the left field fence for his first home run of the season. Later in the same frame, Trey Dawson scored Ross Adolph with a shallow single into left field to push the advantage to 5-0.
The lead would grow to as large as 7-0 in the seventh frame. Lacroix tripled for his third hit of the night, driving in Valdez from first base. Costes followed with an RBI single up the middle to plate Lacroix and open up the widest margin of the night.
Cedar Rapids (4-8) did their only damage in the top of the ninth. Willy Collado issued a free pass to leadoff hitter Gabe Snyder and, two batters later, Trey Cabbage deposited his third home run of the season over the center field wall to pull the Kernels within 7-2.
Dubin earned the win in his first start of the season by throwing 6.0 shutout innings. The right-hander allowed just one hit and struck out seven. After a first inning single, he retired the final 16 hitters he faced in the game. Jojanse Torres struck out a pair in a scoreless seventh inning before turning the ball over to Collado for the final two frames. The Bandits staff combined for 12 strikeouts on the night. They have recorded double-digit strikeouts in each of the first 11 games this season.
Lacroix went 3-4 with a triple and two runs batted in to lead the way offensively for the Bandits. Pena and Schreiber extended their respective hitting streaks to eight games, Costes pushed his to seven and Dawson's reached six. Valdez reached base three times and has four extra-base hits in the last three days.
The River Bandits will continue playing in Cedar Rapids at 6:35 p.m. on Tuesday night against the Kernels. The entire series was moved from Modern Woodmen Park due to limited access to the stadium. RHP Austin Hansen (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to throw for the Bandits against Kernels RHP Blayne Enlow (1-1, 9.00).
