Today's Game: The Dayton Dragons (affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds) meet the Fort Wayne TinCaps (affiliate of the San Diego Padres) in the last game of a three-game series as the Dragons try for a sweep.
Last Game: Dayton defeated Fort Wayne 8-5 on Sunday. The Dragons trailed 5-1 as they came to bat in the bottom of the seventh, but a six-run eighth inning capped by Beau Amaral's grand slam capped off one of the Dragons best comebacks of the season.
Home Game Madness: Over the last two homestands, the Dragons are 6-2. Their six wins have included five games in which they trailed by at least three runs; two grand slams that gave the team the lead in their final at-bat; two walk-off home runs; one win in which the Dragons came back from an 8-1 deficit; yesterday's win in which they trailed by four runs going to the bottom of the seventh.
Playoff Push: With 34 games to play, the Dragons trail Great Lakes by two games in the race for the wildcard slot. They are four games out of first.
Seth Mejias-Brean has six home runs and 16 RBI over his last 10 games. He ranks second in all of professional baseball in July OPS at 1.234. In his last 16 games, he is 31 for 66, .470 to raise his average from .266 to .303. He has a 12-game hitting streak. He ranks third in the Midwest League in second half batting average at .366. Since May 12, he is batting .349 in 67 games to lead the league.
Team Notes
The Dragons are 15-8 (.652) over the last 23 games. They are 15-10 in July to tie for the second best record in the league. The Dragons have had four walk-off wins in the second half including two on the last homestand. They had none in the first half. The Dragons have hit four grand slam home runs in July after not hitting any in April-June.
