Lowery Tosses Complete Game in 5-1 Win

July 29, 2013 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release

Pat Lowery went the distance on Monday night, firing nine innings of one-run ball to give the Burlington Bees a 5-1 win over the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.

It was a night to remember for Lowery (4-6), who was on cruise control from the beginning of the game. He was throwing nothing but strikes, striking out six and fooling hitters all night at Time Warner Cable Field.

The right-hander did not allow a baserunner in any inning, except for the second and the fifth. In the second, Mike Garza hit a one-out double, but Lowery got the next two batters on ground balls. In the fifth, Garrett Cooper tied the game with one out on his first home run of the year. The next batter, Parker Berberet, reached on an infield single. Lowery would go on to retire the next 14 batters.

Burlington (40-61, 14-22) scored a run in the first against Ryan Gibbard (4-3) on two doubles. Pedro Toribio doubled with one out and came around to score on a two-out double by Wade Hinkle. Hinkle and Toribio were bash brothers on Monday, combining to go 4-for-8 with three runs and two RBIs.

Wisconsin (44-57, 15-21) tied the game in the fifth, but the Bees came storming back to score four in the sixth. Toribio came to the plate with one out and laid down a perfect bunt for a single. He stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by Parker Berberet. Exicardo Cayones hit a ground ball to second and the throw home to get Toribio was late. Cayones went to second on the play, as the ball was thrown past the catcher. Hinkle hit a line drive off Gibbard's leg and Cayones scored all the way from second. The Rattlers replaced Gibbard with Preston Gainey and he immediately allowed a two-run home run to Zach Wright.

The complete game is the first nine-inning complete game for the Bees this season. The previous high in innings pitched came on May 4th when Alex Keudell twirled eight innings.

Burlington will now head home to take on Cedar Rapids for a four-game series. Tyler DeLoach will square off against Christian Powell at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday night at Community Field.
