
Dragons Go Deep to Beat Lugnuts, 8-1

DAYTON, OH - Gabriel Moreno homered for the second consecutive day, but the Lansing Lugnuts (21-29) gave up four homers in an 8-1 series-opening loss to the Dayton Dragons (16-36) on Tuesday night at Fifth Third Field.
Pabel Manzanero, Reniel Ozuna, Brian Rey and Juan Martinez homered for the Dragons, with Ozuna, Rey and Martinez all taking the roundtrip tour in a game-breaking five-run fifth inning. The Lugnuts have allowed 19 home runs in their last nine games, with at least one home run served up in each game.
The 19-year-old Moreno had lashed a decisive two-run homer in his final at-bat on Monday afternoon to beat Lake County, 5-4, at Cooley Law School Stadium. In his first at-bat in Dayton, he came through once more, thumping his third home run of the year out to left off left-hander Connor Curlis.
Curlis (Win, 1-1) was otherwise solid, limiting the Lugnuts to five hits and one hit-by-pitch, striking out three, in five innings.
Lugnuts starter Cobi Johnson (Loss, 1-4) allowed a season high six runs on seven hits and three walks in 4 1/3 innings, striking out five. Fitz Stadler followed with the final 3 2/3 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk and whiffing two.
Moreno was the only Lugnut with a multi-hit game, going 2-for-4. Nick Podkul, Jake Brodt and Hagen Danner each singled in the loss.
Right-hander Josh Winckowski (2.40 ERA) starts the second game of the three-game series for the Lugnuts, opposing Dayton right-hander Ricky Salinas (6.20) at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
