Dayton Dragons News Release

DAYTON, OHIO - The Dayton Dragons announced the following roster changes today:

Outfielder Junior Arias has been promoted from Dayton to Bakersfield (Advanced-A, California League)

Outfielder Adam Matthews has been promoted to Dayton from Billings (Rookie, Pioneer League).

The Dragons roster currently stands at 24 players, one below the Midwest League limit.

Arias appeared in 72 games for the Dragons this season, batting .283 with 10 home runs, 33 runs batted in, and 40 stolen bases.

Matthews was the Reds 29th round draft pick in 2012 out of the University of South Carolina, where he served as a captain and helped his team to two national championships and one runner-up finish over his final three seasons. He was the Most Valuable Player of the 2012 NCAA Columbia Regional as the Gamecocks went all the way to the College World Series finals before losing to a University of Arizona team that featured current Dragons infielder Seth Mejias-Brean in South Carolina's bid for their third straight national title. Matthews enjoyed his best season as a sophomore in 2010, batting .307 with seven home runs. In his first season of professional baseball in 2012 with the Goodyear Reds of the Arizona League, he batted .325 in 32 games. He was off to a slow start in just five games with Billings this season, going 1 for 20.

The Dragons play a doubleheader tonight at Bowling Green, starting at 6:05 p.m. (EDT). They return home on July 4 to host Bowling Green with a fireworks show to follow the game. Call (937) 228-2287 to purchase lawn tickets or for group ticket information.
