Kane County Cougars News Release
GRAND CHUTE, Wisc. - The Kane County Cougars tied the game twice but were unable to ever get over the hump against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers in a 4-2 loss at Fox Cities Stadium on Wednesday night.
Leftfielder Victor Roache was a home run shy of the cycle and drove in a pair of runs for the Timber Rattlers (34-44, 5-8). Roache drove in the go-ahead run in the sixth inning on an RBI triple against Cougars (32-47, 2-11) starter Michael Heesch (L, 3-7). Mike Garza followed and drove Roache in when he lashed an RBI single. Heesch went six innings and allowed four runs on eight hits while walking one and striking out no one.
Dan Vogelbach drove in two runs and went 3-for-4 in the losing effort. He tied the game at one in the third inning. With Gioskar Amaya at third, Vogelbach drove him in with an infield single by rolling a slow groundball up the middle. All Rattlers shortstop Adrian Williams could do was knock the ball down as Amaya crossed the plate.
After the Timber Rattlers took lead in the bottom of the fourth, Vogelbach tied the game again in the sixth. Albert Almora accepted a leadoff walk before Vogelbach smashed an RBI double.
Jorge Lopez (W, 4-6) worked seven innings for the Rattlers and struck out five while walking one. He allowed just two runs, only one of which was earned, and five hits. Taylor Mangum (S, 4) struck out three and did not allow a run in the seventh and eighth innings.
The Cougars' bullpen was stout in the loss on Wednesday night. Both Armando Rivero and Stephan Perakslis turned in identical lines. They each worked one scoreless inning, did not walk a batter, struck out one and gave up a base hit.
The Cougars return to Fifth Third Bank Ballpark on Thursday night for Independence Day against the Quad Cities River Bandits with a 6:30 p.m. start. In the opener of a five-game series, Felix Pena (2-2) will start for the Cougars against righty Juan Minaya (1-1). For tickets, please call (630) 232-8811 or visit www.kccougars.com.
