Chiefs Snap Three-Game Losing Streak with 2-1 Win Tuesday

Burlington, IA- The Peoria Chiefs scored two early runs and held off the late charging Burlington Bees for a 2-1 win on Tuesday night that snapped a three-game losing streak. The win moves the Chiefs to 5-7 in the second half and 43-36 overall with one game left on the series and roadtrip.

The Chiefs jumped all over Tyler DeLoach from the first pitch as C.J. McElroy tripled to the wall in left-center, his first extra-base hit in six games for Peoria. The next batter, Charlie Tilson, grounded out to second as McElroy scored for a 1-0 lead.

In the second inning, Breyvic Valera led off with a single and moved to second on a groundout. With two outs, Ildemaro Vargas singled to center and Valera scored to give the Chiefs a 2-0 lead.

The Bees lost two base runners in the first inning and left two more on base in the second against Cory Jones. Anthony Bemboom doubled in the third with one out but was left in scoring position. Bemboom double again in the sixth and this time he came around to score on a groundout and a wild pitch.

Peoria loaded the bases in the eighth but couldn't add on. The Chiefs attempted to bring in Zach Russell to pitch in the eighth inning but the right-hander was not listed on the lineup card and after warming up he was not allowed to pitch. Joe Donofrio took his spot and kept the Bees off the board in the eighth inning.

Burlington threatened in the ninth as Exicardo Cayones drew a walk and moved to third on a one-out single by Garrett Cannizario. Chevy Clarke lined out to center and Donofrio got Wendell Soto to groundout to third base to end the game.

Jones (4-1) allowed one run on eight hits over seven innings. He walked one and struck out two in his second straight win. Donofrio earned his first career save with two shutout innings on two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
