Cedar Rapids Kernels News Release
The Kernels return home for a short, two-game home stand over the Fourth of July. Here's a preview of what you can expect these next seven dates:
July 4-5 vs. Wisconsin
The Kernels host the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers, the Midwest League affiliate, in a two-game series.
Come celebrate the Fourth of July with the Cedar Rapids Kernels. Gates open at 4:00 pm for a special 5:05 pm first pitch. The Kernels will wear special patriotic jerseys that will be sold during the game as part of Armed Forces Night with the proceeds to benefit Stand Down for Veterans. The Midwest Dueling Pianos will be on hand to entertain fans before, during and after the game. And, fans are asked to bring a stuffed toy to the game for a post-game Teddy Bear toss. The toys will be collected for the Mr. Shucks Happy Faces Toy Drive, which ends Friday, July 5th. It's also a Z 102.9 Thirsty Thursday when fans can get 12 oz. regular draft beer, bottled soda and water for $2. The concession stand will remain open after the game, but the Thirsty Thursday special ends at the end of the Kernels game. Make sure to stick around after the game as the Kernels will have their very own spectacular FIREWORKS show starting at 9:45 pm, followed by the downtown Freedom Festival Fireworks at 10:00 pm. While waiting for the fireworks, fans can come onto the field to run the bases and play catch in the outfield. Tickets for this game are NEARLY SOLD OUT - there are no tickets remaining currently in the Premier, Club or on the Miller Mezzanine. Tickets still remain for the Plaza and Lawn sections and there are limited numbers of an all you can eat and drink package for $26 on the Plumbers and Pipefitters Pavilion. Call the Kernels Ticket Office at 896-7560 when they open at 10 am on Thursday morning to get your tickets now.
You'll want to be here when the gates open at 5:30 pm on Friday, July 5th as the first 1,000 fans through the gates receive a free set of 2013 Kernels Baseball Cards, thanks to Perfect Game USA. It's a 98.1 KHAK Kernels Friday Mug Club - buy a 16 oz. collectors mug for $6 and get it filled with soda or regular draft beer at the concession stands. Refills are just $3 and bring your mug back to every Friday Kernels home game for $3 refills. The Kernels welcome special guests from Belle Plaine to the game. First pitch between the Kernels and Timber Rattlers is set for 6:35 pm.
