Burlington Bees News Release

Ryan Crowley tossed six innings of one-run ball and Andrew Ray doubled home two runs to give the Burlington Bees a 2-1 victory over the Peoria Chiefs on Wednesday night at Community Field.

The Bees (28-50, 2-11) ended a 10-game losing streak on Wednesday night against the Chiefs (43-47, 5-8) and they did so in a very familiar way. Pitching has been the key for Burlington in its wins, and Ryan Crowley (7-3) delivered a phenomenal performance, allowing one unearned run on three hits in six innings of work.

Burlington got on the board early against Kyle Helisek (6-3), scoring two runs in the first. Riley Good started his Bees career with a leadoff double. Ildemaro Vargas bobbled a ball hit by Anthony Bemboom, which put runners on the corners for Andrew Ray. Ray doubled home both Good and Bemboom with a shot down the line.

The only run that Crowley surrendered was an unearned run in the third. Jordan Walton's ground ball down the first base line went over the glove of Wade Hinkle for an error. Walton advanced to second on the play and scored on a single by CJ McElroy.

The bullpen was stellar this evening, with Jairo Diaz and Kurt Spomer combining to fire three innings of shutout baseball. Diaz tossed two innings, while Spomer picked up the save by striking out the side in the ninth.

Burlington will try and pick up another win when it heads to Clinton to begin a two-game series with the Lumberkings on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and Nic DellaTorre will make his Bees debut.
