
Caps bombard Lugs with 21 hits in 10-5 laugher

EASTLAKE, OH - Logan Vick, Joe Sever and Anthony Santander each had four hits as the Lake County Captains (9-5, 32-49) tallied a season-high 21 hits to defeat the Lansing Lugnuts (2-11, 34-48), 10-5, on Wednesday night at Classic Park.
Lansing has now lost six consecutive games.
The Captains jumped on top of the Lugnuts early, plating four runs in the first and three more in the second, all off Lansing starter Roberto Osuna (Loss, 3-5).
Vick's first hit of the night was an RBI single that tied the score 1-1 in the first before Sever hit an RBI triple to put the Captains ahead. Erik Gonzalez and Santander each supplied run-scoring hits as well against Osuna to give Lake County a 4-1 lead after one frame.
In the second inning, Vick added a second RBI single before Sever brought him home on a two-run homer out to left, pushing the Captains up 7-2.
Gonzalez followed with his second hit of the night, chasing Osuna from the game after just 1.2 innings of work. Osuna allowed a career-high seven runs - all earned - on a career -high 10 hits. He struck three and did not issue a walk.
Vick finished the night with singles in the fourth and fifth innings while Sever added an RBI single in the fifth and another base knock in the seventh. Sever finished a triple short of the cycle. Meanwhile, Santander bookended a pair of singles with doubles in the first and eighth.
In the loss, leadoff hitter Dalton Pompey was 3-for-3 with three singles, two walks, two runs scored, an RBI and he also stole his team-high 26th base. Santiago Nessy hit a solo home run in the second inning and drove in a run in the eighth with a single, finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk as well.
The win for Lake County was given to reliever Felix Sterling (Win, 2-4), who tossed 1.1 scoreless innings in relief of starter Jake Sisco. Sisco pitched 4.2 innings, allowing three runs - all earned - on five Lansing hits. He issued two walks and struck out three.
Game three of the split series is set for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch at Cooley Law School Stadium on Thursday night on a Labatt Blue Light Thirsty Thursday with $1 beers and LAFCU Fireworks following the game. Lansing will give the ball to right-hander Javier Avendano (5-5, 3.99) against Lake County left-hander Ryan Merritt (4-8, 4.03).
