Dragons and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Team Up for "Home Run for Life"

June 13, 2006 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Dayton Dragons News Release

DAYTON, OH- Fifth Third Field will host 14-year-old Tyler Johnson and his 11-year-old brother Charlie from Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield's "Home Run for Life" program when the Dayton Dragons take on the Southwest Michigan Devil Rays on Thursday, June 15th at 7 p.m.

The Dayton Dragons and Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield have teamed up for a third season of the "Home Run for Life" program honoring individuals who have beaten life-threatening conditions. Tyler and Charlie Johnson were diagnosed with hemophilia, an illness that often keeps children on the bench. It hasn't stopped the Johnson brothers, as they show each and every day that it's possible to live - and play - with hemophilia. On June 15th, Tyler and Charlie get their chance to play at Fifth Third Field.

Tyler and Charlie will be joined at Fifth Third Field by their parents and many of the doctors, nurses, and Anthem representatives that were a major part in their victory over hemophilia.

During an inning break, Tyler and Charlie will take a ceremonial lap around the bases signifying their "home run for life." As they round third base, the Dayton Dragons players will be lined up to high five the brothers as they make their way towards home plate. Upon crossing the plate, Tyler and Charlie will be greeted by Dragons manager Billy Gardner, who will present them with a certificate making them honorary Dayton Dragons.
