Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
LANSING, MI -- An early lead wasn't enough for the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Tuesday night against the Lansing Lugnuts. Brian Pettway and Josh Bell both homered and Aaron Tressler struck out seven over six innings for his third win of the year as the Lugnuts took a 6-2 decision over the Rattlers at Oldsmobile Park. Lansing won three out of the four games in the series.
Luis Valbuena started the game with a triple and scored on a Robby Hudson ground out for a 1-0 Wisconsin lead.
Bell tied the game 1-1 with a leadoff home run, the first of his three hits on the night, in the bottom of the third inning.
Lansing got their first lead of the night on a lead off homer by Pettway in the bottom of the fifth. The Lugnuts padded their lead with a two-run double by Jesus Gonzalez to make the score 4-1.
Valbuena figured into the scoring again for the Rattlers with a lead off homer in the top of the sixth inning. It was the second homer in as many games for the Rattler second baseman and pulled the Rattlers to within 4-2. That was all for the Rattler scoring though.
Pettway struck again in the bottom of the sixth with a two-out RBI single to put the Lugnuts out front 5-2.
The Lugnuts (39-25) added to their lead in the eighth inning. A two out RBI single by Joey Metropoulos made it 6-2.
Paul Phillips, the fourth Lugnut pitcher of the night, pitched a scoreless ninth in a non-save situation to close out the Rattlers.
Paul Fagan pitched 7-2/3 innings for the longest outing by Rattler starting pitcher this season, but he allowed six runs on eight hits for his seventh loss of the season.
The Rattlers are off on Wednesday and return to action on Thursday with a doubleheader against the Swing of the Quad Cities at John O'Donnell Stadium.
Wisconsin will have Harold Williams (1-3, 3.42ERA) pitching in game one and Jose Escalona (4-5, 4.03ERA) in game two as the starting pitchers. The Swing will counter with Adam Daniels (2-5, 4.38ERA) and Jamie Garcia (4-4, 3.06ERA).
Game time for the first seven inning game is 5:30pm CDT. There will be thirty minutes between the completion of game one and the beginning of game two.
